truthradioshow.com Shalom and welcome to the Dan Bedank Show on truthradioshow.com and welcome to the Gospel of John on in-depth confidential study chapter 11 So if you missed Chapters 1 through 10, they are in the playlist.
Also, if you go to truthradioshow.com, you can get all the series right on the website.
So, we don't read the Bible, like, just straight through like most websites do.
What we do is we go through the entire chapter, verse by verse, and really get into the depth of what the Scripture actually means.
So, before we go any further, guys, what we do is pray for wisdom and understanding, so let's do that right now.
So, Yeshua, Messiah, Jesus, our Lord and Savior, thank you so much for being our Savior and Messiah and dying for our sins in the world.
And we ask you, Lord, just to forgive us, individually, of our personal, individual sins and trespasses that we may have committed.
And Heavenly Father, we ask you to install the Holy Spirit upon us, to give us divine wisdom and understanding, to write the Word, your Word of God, upon our hearts, Lord.
Heavenly Father, we ask you to just bless us all and protect us against any and all evil.
And we ask you also to comfort those who need it and heal to those who need it as well.
In your precious name, we pray.
Amen.
So, that being said, guys, we read the Scripture in context, because context is key.
Like I said, we examine the book.
We don't just read through it.
We examine what the Word of God has to say.
And we let the Scripture interpret Scripture.
We don't bounce around all over the place.
We stick to one chapter at a time to really absorb what the Word of God has to say.
So, thank you.
Those listening on shakeawakeradio.com, please open your Bible if you got one.
And those watching on a video edition, On truthradioshow.com.
We got the Bible right up here on the screen.
So, anyway, now we left off Chapter 10.
And Chapter 10 is just like an amazing chapter.
It really was.
And so, basically, Jesus, he ended up going to where John the Baptist used to be, where he used to baptize people.
And so, when he was there, because he escaped the Pharisees, they were ready to stone him or arrest him.
So he ended up escaping them.
And he went to, like basically, to get away the place where John the Baptist first abode.
I'm baptizing people, I'm sorry.
So I'm a little tongue-tied today.
And there he abode.
And many resorted unto him and said that John did no miracles, but all the things that John spoke of this man were true.
So this is where the people knew who John the Baptist was.
John spoke many things about Jesus.
And the people acknowledge that.
John didn't do no miracles or anything.
He just baptized people and spoke of the coming of Jesus.
So the people recognize, yeah, they've seen Jesus recognize everything that John told them is true.
And many believed him then.
So on to chapter 10, 11, I'm sorry.
Now a certain man was sick named Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
And it was that Mary, which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, and whose brother, Lazarus, was sick.
So remember her?
She anointed Jesus with very expensive ointment.
And wiped his hair, cleaned his feet with her hair.
So therefore, his sister went and said unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
So when Jesus heard of that, he said, this sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God.
And the Son of God might be glorified there be.
So, she's just concerned about her brother, and she's asking Jesus, hey, Lazarus is sick.
And so when Jesus heard of that, he said, well, the sickness is not, he's not going to die.
Well, this is being done purposely to glorify God.
And that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
So now Jesus loved Martha and her sister in Lazarus.
So he had a very good relationship with these people.
And when he had heard, therefore, that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
So he just stayed for another two days before he left where he was in the area where John the Baptist was.
Used to be.
So, and then after, that said to the disciples, let us go into Judea again.
So, again, he heard that Lazarus was sick, so he stood there for another couple days before he left.
Then he ended up saying to the disciples, alright, let's go into Judea again.
And his disciples said unto him, Master, the Jews of the late sought to stone you.
And go there and not there again.
So basically saying, hey, I don't think it's a good idea to go into Judea because remember the Jews, they wanted to stone you?
And I don't think it's a good idea to go back there again, you know?
So Jesus answered, and he said, Are there not twelve hours in a day?
If any man walk in a day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of the world.
But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles because there is no light in him.
Right?
So what light does he really talk about?
Does he talk about the sun, the light in the day and all?
I think he's talking about himself.
He is the light of the world.
So, these things he said, and after that he said unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth, but I go, that I may wake him out of his sleep.
So he's like, I am the light of the world.
I'm the light of the world, and Lazarus needs my help.
So, they didn't understand what Jesus was talking about.
Lord, if he sleeps, he shall do well.
And how about Jesus spoke about his death?
But they thought that he had spoken of taking the rest of his sleep.
So they didn't understand what Jesus was talking about.
Jesus was speaking of his death.
But they thought he was speaking of, like, no, it was the guy who was just taking a nap or sleeping.
So anyway, then Jesus said unto them plainly, So Lazarus is already dead.
We need to go.
So Lazarus is already dead.
We need to go.
So then said Thomas, which is called Damus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
So this is Thomas willing to die with Lazarus.
The And then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave for four days already.
So by the time they got there, mind you, when they heard about Lazarus, he stayed there for another two days.
And by the time he left and got there, it was four days after Lazarus was already dead.
He's been in the grave for four days.
So now Bethany was near and to Jerusalem and about 15 furlongs off.
So I don't know what furlong is.
Let's actually look that up.
How many miles is a furlong?
I did this before, that's right.
One furlong is about a little over a tenth of a mile.
So she was 15, so that was... She was about less than two miles away.
So Bethlehem was about two miles away, and many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary to comfort them concerning their brother.
So they were mourning the death of Lazarus.
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went up and met him, but Mary sat still in the house.
So Martha ran out to greet him.
Mary just stayed in the house.
And then said, Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
If you were here, he would have never died.
Because you would have healed him, right?
So, but I know that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it to thee.
So you know he's dead, and I know if you ask God, He'll give it to you.
And Jesus said unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
And Martha said unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection on the last day.
So she thinks, yeah, he's gonna rise again in the resurrection, you know, the afterlife, right?
And Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life.
He that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
And whoever lives it and believes in me shall never die.
Believers told this.
Believers.
You believe it?
And she said, yes, Lord.
I believe that you are the Christ, which is the Messiah, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
And when she said she had so, right, she went her way and called Mary, her sister, secretly saying, the Master has come and calls for me.
So yeah, Mary, yeah, Jesus is here, he wants you.
Come out of the house, he needs to talk to you.
So as soon as she heard this, she rose quickly and came unto him.
And so now, Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in the place where Martha had met him.
So the Jews then, which were in the house, in her house, in the house, I'm sorry, And comfort her when they saw Mary that she rose up hastily and went out.
So rose up real quick, just left real quick.
Following her saying she goes unto the grave to weep there.
So Mary left the place and the Jews came in to comfort her and all that stuff.
And then Mary rose up quick to leave the place and went to the grave to weep there, the grave of Lazarus.
So then when Mary was come where Jesus was and saw him.
So Mary, she sees Jesus and she fell down at his feet saying unto him, Lord, if thou has been here, my brother had not died.
So she says the same thing as Martha.
Mary's telling Jesus, if you were here, he would have never died.
I think this is another way of saying, hey, what took you so long?
Because Jesus stalled and waited two days before he went there.
Now, he said this.
Remember, he said this was basically a plan of God to glorify him.
Yeah, he could have left right away when he got there before Lazarus died.
But regardless.
So when Jesus therefore saw her weeping, he's crying and everything, right?
And the Jews also weeping, which came with her.
He groaned in spirit and was troubled.
And said, where have you laid him?
So where was he buried?
And they said to him, Lord, come and see.
So Jesus is inquiring, where is he buried?
So he's seeing Mary and just, and all these people just weeping and just sorrowful, right?
Troubled in spirit.
I'm sorry, he groaned in spirit and was troubled.
So Jesus was very touched by what was going on.
Sympathized.
You know, people were crying because of Lazarus being dead and everything.
And they were saying, like, Lord, they had... And here's the thing, too.
This is where the faith comes in, right?
Even though they were... Mary Ann and Martha were saying, hey, if he were here, he would have lived.
That's showing their faith.
They had that much faith to truly believe that Jesus would have healed them.
That he would have not died if Jesus was there.
So this is showing faith that they believe, and he also asked them, do you believe that I am the Messiah?
They said yes.
So Mary and Martha both truly believe that he's the Christ.
Truly believe that he would have saved Lazarus if Jesus was there, right?
So now they're at the place where he was buried.
Bunch of people there.
So Jesus started crying.
He wept.
Then said to the Jews, Behold, how he loved him.
So just saying how much he loved Lazarus, right?
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
So now the Jews are basically testing him or something.
You know, trying him.
Say, hey, wait a minute.
Hold on.
You open the eyes of the blind.
You heal people, right?
So, could you not have basically prevented Lazarus from dying?
So basically, the Jews are mocking.
Not mocking, I don't know how we'd say it, but mocking them or testing them or something.
Anyway, you healed the blind in this, but you could have prevented the guy from dying.
Why didn't you?
Right?
So Jesus, therefore, again, groaning in himself, comes to the grave, and it was a cave, and a stone laid upon it.
So this is a sceptical.
So he wasn't, Lazarus wasn't actually buried, he was in a cave.
That was just a rock that we today, if you go to the graveyard, right, you see these stone places are just where people's bodies are put in the walls.
They're not actually buried underground, they're just put in tombs.
It's the same thing, but of course, this is a cave, you know.
So Jesus said, Take away the stone.
So he told Martha, right?
Move the stone.
Move away the stone.
And Martha, the sister of him that was dead, said unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks, for he has been dead for four days.
So Jesus asked them to remove the stone.
And Martha's like, oh, I don't think you want to do that, because he's been dead for four days.
And you know how it's like warm in the area, right?
So they're saying he's going to stink.
You know, his body's probably decaying and all this stuff.
And he's going to, his body's going to stink.
But Jesus said unto her, I said, Jesus said unto her, right?
Said, I not go unto thee.
That if thou wiltest believe, they shall see the glory of God.
So he's asking them, if you would believe, right?
would you You would see the glory of God.
He's asking him, right?
So basically he's saying, move the stone.
If you want to see the glory of God, remove it, right?
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid.
And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, Father, I thank Thee for Thou hast heard me.
And I knew that those hears me always, but because of the people which I stand by, I said it, that they may believe that this has sent me.
So now this is big, because remember the Jews are right there, right?
The Jews are always constantly condemning Jesus.
Tempting them now.
Oh yeah, you healed the blind.
Even though, you know, guaranteed they loved Lazarus, right?
They're crying for Lazarus too, but they're always tempting Jesus, right?
You healed the blind, so prove yourself.
You know, whatever the case.
So, he asked the Father.
And the Father granted him, so to show the glory of God.
And he says, you know, I know that you have heard me, but because of the people which I stand with, you know, the people next to him, right?
That they may believe that you have sent me.
And when thus had spoken, he cried out with a loud voice.
So when Jesus spoke this, right?
Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, Lazarus, come forth.
Didn't even go into the tomb.
The stone was just moved away.
Didn't even go into the kutub.
He yelled, Lazarus, come forth!
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with gravecloths, and his face was bound with a napkin.
Jesus said to them, Loose him and let him go.
So imagine that, like, you know, because when he died, they wrapped all the skin with clothing.
Like a mummy, if you want to put it that way, almost.
To try to prevent some insects to get in my, whatever the case, the cause, you know.
I don't know what the purpose really was for it.
But they bounded him with a cloth, like they would do with a mummy, you know.
So, Jesus has them remove the stone.
And speaks into the cave, Lazarus, come out!
And Lazarus comes out, he's got all the cloth, you know, the cloth wrapped all around him.
From head to toe, and Jesus told them to take, you know, take all their stuff off him.
So that must have scared the heck out of people, even though they were happy to see this, but imagine that?
You've been in that tomb for four days, probably your body's rotten and everything, especially with that heat.
But you see this like, mummy, take that coming out of the grave!
Yeah, then Jesus says, hey, take the dings off him, right?
And many of the Jews which came to Mary had seen the dings which Jesus did and believed on him.
So the Jews that were there, they seen us.
Instantly they believed him.
That he's the Christ, the Messiah.
Because who else could do this?
Raise the dead.
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees and told them what the things that Jesus done.
So right away, you know, a few of them left.
Ran to the Pharisees.
Oh, look!
You should see what Jesus done!
He rose Lazarus from the dead!
So, then gathered the chief priests.
Here we go, right?
The chief priests and the Pharisees and MacArthur.
So they all met up in the meeting and said, what do we do?
For this man does many miracles.
So, again, the chief priests and pastors, they're trying to Put Jesus to death.
They're trying to condemn him, arrest him, put him to death, right?
They want him out of the way, because when Jesus started coming along, you know, nobody's looking at the Pharisees and chief priests like they're gods no more.
Not that they were worshiping them, but they walked around like they were the king, you know, like they were the chief leaders and, you know, just like with a chip on their shoulder, right?
So Jesus is defying everything about them.
Because they're not, you know, even though they claim to be of Moses and all that, but they don't listen to what Moses said about the Messiah coming.
And Elias, right?
So anyway, so now they want Jesus out of the way, because they're not getting the attention they want.
Jesus is like a rock star.
Everywhere he goes, he's got multitudes, which is like five, six thousand people, easily, following him at all times.
So now they're trying to counsel, And they said, what are we going to do?
This man doesn't marry any miracles.
And they said, if we let him, this alone, if we leave this alone, all men will believe on him.
And the Romans shall come and take away both our place and our nation.
So the consul there, which is the Pharisees and the chief priests, like, alright, if we leave him alone, right?
If we don't do anything right now, everybody's going to believe him.
And the Romans are going to take away our place.
And they believed the nation.
So, is that the nation?
So, one of them named Caparvis, being a high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all.
Saying to them, Ye don't know nothing at all.
Nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
So when he spoke of himself, not of himself, but being a high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation.
So there's one chief high priest here, right?
He prophesied that Jesus is going to die for his people.
And not only for that nation, but that also he should gather together in the one, the children of God that were scattered abroad.
So So it sounds like he's speaking up in a council here, defending Jesus.
And then from that day forth, they took council together to put him to death.
So again, the Pharisees in the high priest saying, why I'm dead?
So Jesus, therefore, walked no more openly among the Jews, but went dense into a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Euphraim, and there continued with his disciples.
So now that they want him, alright, consul together, alright, we need to put him to death, right?
So Jesus is stealthily moving throughout the country.
Yeah, the wilderness parts.
In other words, he's not walking directly in the middle of the cities anymore amongst the Jews.
He's, like, skating his way around to try to get to a place.
So in the Jews, Passover was near at hand.
So the Passover was coming, right?
And many went out to the country into Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves.
So it was right about the time when the Last Supper comes.
Then soon after is the crucifixion, right?
So, then they sought they... I'm sorry, then sought they for Jesus.
So they're looking for Jesus.
Spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple.
And what think ye that will not come to the feast?
So, there they are, right?
They're looking for Jesus.
Spoke among themselves and stood in the temple.
I'm thinking, will Jesus come to the feast?
I wonder if Jesus is going to come to this feast, the Passover feast, right?
I remind you, for you dispensationalists out there, Jesus honored the Passover.
Eastern Christmas is not a biblical holiday, nor has anything to do with Jesus.
He wasn't even born in December.
And Easter is a pagan holiday, infertility.
It's a Catholic thing.
Passover is a biblical holiday.
It's not just for the Jews.
Anybody that follows Jesus is to take part in the Passover.
Because Jesus completed the Passover.
The final lamb sacrifice.
Jesus and the apostles always took part in the Passover.
So did early church fathers.
So now again, the Jews are in the temple, and they stood in the temple there waiting for Jesus, asking, is he going to come?
Right?
So now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment that if any man knew where he was, he should show it, and that they might take him.
So they gave this big commandment to everybody, an order, To everybody in the temple.
Listen, like, if you know where Jesus is, tell us where he is.
Show us where he is.
So we can go take him, arrest him.
Now, after the next chapter, we're going to learn about Judas Iscariot, you know, betraying Jesus for the silver.
So right now is, you know, the Passover.
And this is not too soon before He's arrested and crucified.
Fulfilling the prophecy.
As you can see, one of the chief priests knew about this.
He knew that he was to die for the people.
Because I think he's one of the only priests to actually listen to what Jesus had to say.
And again, like I said in the last chapter, these chief priests and Pharisees were a bunch of buffoons.
Even the guy that Jesus healed, that he was born blind, he made him able to see.
And they asked him, like, several times, asked his parents several times the same questions, and they said, well, how many times am I going to tell you?
You know, how many times am I going to tell you?
How many times does Jesus have to tell these people?
He said it indirectly, directly, or parables, in many different ways, and he still could not compute what he was trying to say.
So right now, yeah, that commandment was like, anybody that knows where Jesus is, you better tell us right now.
You better show us.
Because we're going to go take him.
We're going to go arrest him.
So this continues on to chapter 12, which we're going to get to in the next chapter, obviously.
So yeah.
