The second verse is playing.
I'm going to go ahead and introduce Pastor Paul Fanoff.
Did I say your name right?
And he's going to lead us in the Patriot Prayer, which was written in 1905 by Francis Jane Crosby.
One of the beauties of this great country is that we are open for people to express their faith in God in any way that they see fit.
I happen to be a Christian pastor and I always pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
But I invite you all to address God in the way that your heart leads you.
But I'll be reading this Patriot's Prayer that was written in 1905.
Almighty God, on this day, the 24th of October, in the year of our Lord, 2010, we turn our attention to you and those who minister with you to protect and guard this nation and the rights of free men.
As we enter into this ceremony for the protection and defense of our Constitution, we humbly ask for your guidance, illumination, protection, and peace, that we may know your will for our beloved United States of America and the people gathered here today.
Give us the strength and courage to do what is right.
At all times, protect those who are gathered here, our loved ones, and all who are standing now for the rights of free men, not only in this time together, but as we move forward to fulfill your plan.
We ask you to unfold us in that which you know will enable us to carry on the sacred trust given by our founding fathers, through whom your voice was heard.
We offer all we are or have or ever hope to be into this service for our country and fellow men.
Unite us as one heart and mind and body.
We give you all the credit for all good that may come from our humble efforts and we ask your great mercy and forgiveness for the wrongs which have been committed against the charters of freedom which you gave to this world through the American people.
May we carry on the torch of liberty that all on this earth may one day know the gifts and blessings you intend for each of us.
We offer this prayer to you, our Creator and nature's God, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine providence.
Amen.
Amen.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
- You're welcome.
- Yes, you can applaud.
- Yeah.
- Thanks.
- Thank you. - Now for the next passage, I'd like to introduce one of the daughters of Rhode Island descended from Roger Williams, himself.
I'm actually descended from Thomas Dudley, who was the Massachusetts governor that kicked Roger Williams out, but I guess we should be happy he did that because you have your own state now and you're not part of us.
Anyway, Deb, why don't you tell us what it means to be an American?
That should show us how close we might be at the edge of history right now.
And we're still talking.
What does it mean to be an American?
Truly.
Is it just about our individual personal lives?
The time we spend thinking about ourselves, ensuring our little worlds are in good order?
Well, surely our America is a reflection of the choices, thoughts, and feelings we have each moment.
These accumulate, don't they?
And they become the mass consciousness of our nation?
Those we put in office through the years are a reflection of where we are.
One of the reasons for these Liberty Walks is to consider what it means to be in America on a deeper level.
Why are you here in America at this time?
What is your purpose?
How can you help to lift your life and those around you into a better place?
America was established for the free.
Our founding fathers went through great sacrifice and effort to establish a place where the people were the ones in power, where the government was to serve the people.
There is no other nation like America on this earth.
In other places, the people have always had to answer to the desires or whims of a monarchy, a king, a dictator, a ruling class.
When George Washington became president, he was tested.
He could have gone the route of a king, but he did not.
Our government was established of the people, by the people, for the people.
Our founding fathers, through the assistance of divine providence, were given the greatest governing document ever given to mankind.
So we would never have to go through what they went through.
They hoped that all generations of Americans would carry on the sacred trust they entered into to bring forth the charters of freedom we now acknowledge as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and our Bill of Rights.
Let us reflect on what it means, then, to be a freedom keeper for America.
We want the Liberty Walks, which take place in the future, to be times where we grow and we learn more about our Constitution, its provisions, mandates, and principles, where we come to understand the great blessings we have been given
Here to guard and protect that we together can arise into a higher place where the people of America will consciously stand guard to ensure that freedom is not only fully realized here, but it's an example for all mankind.
And I'd like to add something I always add when I talk to people.
That is set up at West Point, where George Washington started this country, the father of our country.
And repeat after me please.
Duty.
Honor.
Country.
Do not lie.
Do not cheat.
Do not steal.
Nor tolerate those who do.
Do not cheat.
Do not steal.
Do not steal.
Nor tolerate those who do.
Nor tolerate those who do.
Thank you.
Deb will you please announce your 912 group on our website for our meetup.
Announce your meetup.
Go ahead.
Our meetup, I don't have it in front of me.
It's hard to remember.
Meetup.com slash... He set it up.
Meetup.com slash 912.
912 slash... Actually, yep.
Yeah, it's just look up 912 Project Rhode Island and it'll come up and look on the meetup for that.
And you can also go to the meetup slash The Rhode Island Tea Party.
That's my wife and my website that we started about two years ago.
And 912 stands for Values and Principles Based on the Constitution.
based on the Constitution.
Thank you.
Now for the Constitution message.
By the way, this is from The group that's having the National Liberty Walk today is the WeThePeople.org, Bob Schultz's group.
And this is the constitutional message.
The Declaration of Independence and our U.S.
Constitution are America's charters of freedom.
They're hanging by a thread.
Just like this flag behind me. - There are a set of written principles and laws designed to secure your rights, the people's individual, unalienable rights.
Our Constitution is designed to govern the government, not us.
That's right.
If there was a Constitution in place, Barry Sotoro wouldn't be President right now.
Our Constitution is all that separates we the people from despotism and tyranny.
When America honors our Constitution, As a nation, we would no longer be meddling in the internal affairs of other countries, causing hostility to be directed back at us.
We would be neutral in our alliances, trading with all, conducting ourselves with honor and dignity.
There would be no undeclared wars abroad.
There would be no war on terror, no developing police state at home.
There would be no corporate welfare.
Our government would not be bailing out any private company or foreign nation.
Our currency would once again be backed by gold and silver.
There would be, thus, no inflation.
We would have full employment as we did before.
Each state would have a well-regulated, well-trained, and well-disciplined militia.
And we would all have the right to keep and bear arms.
I should say the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms.
There would be no direct, unapportioned tax on an individual's labor.
Our right to privacy would be honored.
Our immigration laws would be enforced.
We would continue to be a beacon for those who sought to come here legally to the land of freedom and opportunity because they valued the American dream, American values, and sought to integrate into American culture.
We would not enter into any contracts, treaties or alliances that would compromise the sovereignty of America.
Our states would not be eroding their sovereignty in return for federal funds.
We would not permit our votes to be counted in secret, which is exactly what happens when digital machines count them.
Most importantly, the people would be able to hold the government accountable to the Constitution through their First Amendment right to petition the government for redress of grievances before any violation of the Constitution could take place and injure our nation, our people, our economy, and our reputation.
To find more about this right, which few of us understand, go to www.givemeliberty.org.
As Thomas Jefferson once said, the people are the only sure reliance for the preservation of liberty.
The Constitution is not going to be defended unless we the people defend it.
And now, with that in mind, I would like to reintroduce our host, Randy Swanson.
