[00:00:34]  A couple of my other lines are still under the weather as the phone company makes some swaps and changes and moves things around a little bit.
[00:00:44]  So we'll see what happens.
[00:00:45]  From Hawaii and the Tahitian Islands in the west, east to the Caribbean in the U.S. Virgin Islands, south into South America, north to Santa Country and the pole, this is coast to coast A.M. Plus or something.

[00:01:04]  I'm Arbell.
[00:01:05]  It's great to be here.
[00:01:07]  And it looks like Bob Dole has done it.
[00:01:11]  He's over a thousand delegates now, some number above that which he needs.
[00:01:19]  And he is the nominee.
[00:01:23]  So, well, I guess you're not actually the nominee until you become the nominee in San Diego, but for all intents and purposes, it's a done deal.
[00:01:33]  Pat Buchanan, kind of unsure what's going to happen with Pat.
[00:01:40]  The only open question right now is who Dole will pick as a running mate.
[00:01:46]  And I do not believe it's going to be Pat Buchanan.
[00:01:51]  I know that's what a lot of his supporters would like.
[00:01:54]  And I've thought it over.
[00:01:58]  And if I was Bob Dole, it's a two-edged sword.
[00:02:05]  On the one hand, Pat Buchanan would unify the Republican Party, would bring the Dole and maybe some of the Perot voters in.
[00:02:15]  On the negative side, all the things done to Pat Buchanan, Bill Clinton and company, would try and lay on Bob Dole through Pat Buchanan.
[00:02:28]  And the first tenant of picking a running mate is do no harm with your choice.
[00:02:34]  Do no harm.
[00:02:37]  So it might be viewed that Pat Buchanan would do harm.
[00:02:42]  On the other hand, vice presidents have always been lightning rods.
[00:02:48]  And Pat Buchanan is a good lightning rod.
[00:02:52]  The whole top of his head has been singed for years.
[00:02:56]  So he might make a good vice president.
[00:02:58]  Probably would make a good VP.
[00:03:02]  And the problem, of course, is that, you know, Dole and Buchanan are at opposite poles of a number of questions, economically, the life question, all the rest of it.
[00:03:16]  And it's hard to see how they would go together.
[00:03:19]  So, who knows, politics will play itself out.
[00:03:24]  Somebody will be picked.
[00:03:26]  But I don't think it's going to be Buchanan.

=== Morning's New Feline Leukemia Cat (03:48) ===

[00:03:32]  Well, it has happened again, ladies and gentlemen.
[00:03:37]  I told you over the last couple days there was yet another cat under my house.
[00:03:44]  As I mentioned last night, we laid out our have a heart trap, thank you, the Los Angeles group that sent it to me, Humane Society, And it worked snap at about 3 in the morning, I estimate, because at 4 o'clock in the morning, I went out to my window, you know, and I shined my light out there, and there was a little orange fur ball in my trap.
[00:04:15]  So thankfully, things resolved themselves this time, and we did as we did before and carried the cat trap into our bathroom and put some stuff down, and it stayed there until 8 o'clock this morning.
[00:04:31]  And we went to the veterinarian, and they gave our new cat, as yet unnamed, male, by the way, or at least was, gave our cat a test for feline leukemia, number one.
[00:04:46]  That came out negative, so then they proceeded to do the other things they did.
[00:04:52]  And in the morning, we get our new cat back.
[00:04:55]  Feral, to be sure, about a year old, but feral, definitely a wild cat, so this is going to be interesting.
[00:05:03]  I did not want three cats.
[00:05:06]  Had this one, like my last one, had feline leukemia.
[00:05:09]  And if I'd had to put it down, I would not have gone out and replaced it.
[00:05:13]  But this is cosmic cat.
[00:05:17]  Maybe that's what we ought to do.
[00:05:18]  Trying to think of a name for our cat.
[00:05:20]  Maybe you can help out.
[00:05:22]  Cosmic in the sense that when they come to you, how this cat got in, I mean, I've got a big fence up now, you know, and how it even got here escapes me, or it's been there a long time.
[00:05:35]  I don't know.
[00:05:36]  I don't know.
[00:05:38]  At first, you know, we dangled some food in front of the trap, and he was smart enough to eat all that food.
[00:05:44]  It was gone like a flash.
[00:05:47]  Then back under the house, but he didn't go into the trap.
[00:05:51]  Then, about the middle of the night, he went into the trap, and we got him.
[00:05:54]  So anyway, we've got him, and he's healthy, skinny as can be, because, you know, he hasn't been, heaven knows, I don't even want to know what he's been eating under there.
[00:06:04]  But he's healthy, according to the vet, getting all his shots and all that kind of stuff.
[00:06:09]  Claws are going.
[00:06:11]  Maleness is going, and he will be an inside cat.
[00:06:15]  What will be interesting is how he will interact with my other two cats who kind of hate each other.
[00:06:22]  He may be an interesting addition.
[00:06:25]  So we're going to see.
[00:06:26]  We're going to pick him up in the morning.
[00:06:27]  In the morning, we have a new cat.
[00:06:30]  You can think of it.
[00:06:30]  He's gold, well, orange, and he has gold eyes.
[00:06:35]  He's really going to be quite pretty when he finally begins to eat.
[00:06:40]  So now I have three cats.
[00:06:41]  I didn't want three cats.
[00:06:44]  I don't want this to turn into a cat house.
[00:06:48]  But we've got three cats, folks.
[00:06:53]  Another new addition to the family.

=== GM's Economic Impact (12:11) ===

[00:07:14]  The uh...
[00:07:15]  GM Sprite DOES Break.
[00:07:18]  Strike is spreading, now affecting twenty six plants in fifteen states, Mexico and Canada, beginning to hurt local economies now that.
[00:07:28]  GM has laid off, get this, 150,000 people at 100 plants with a growing ripple effect.
[00:07:42]  If it continues, it will begin to affect the national economy.
[00:07:47]  GM accounts for, this is amazing.
[00:07:51]  GM and its associated industries account for one in every $100 in America.
[00:08:03]  That's amazing.
[00:08:06]  Why are they on strike?
[00:08:09]  Well, one word.
[00:08:10]  It's called outsourcing.
[00:08:13]  Hearts coming from everywhere else, other factories.
[00:08:17]  Cheaper.
[00:08:18]  Ford, Chrysler, do a lot of it.
[00:08:22]  So there is a lot of anxiety in America about jobs.
[00:08:27]  And Mr. Buchanan, and to some degree even Bob Dole lately, have been bashing industry, you know, for the downsizing.
[00:08:41]  Bob Dole kind of gave it lip service and said, well, I really didn't know this was going to become an issue in this campaign.
[00:08:52]  And what he really meant by that is, normally Republicans wouldn't make it an issue, and they wouldn't.
[00:09:01]  Pat Buchanan has.
[00:09:04]  Robert Eaton, who is CEO of Chrysler Corporation, finally got sick of it yesterday and had quite a say.
[00:09:14]  He is one of Detroit's top CEOs, and he's tired of all the criticism being lumped on large companies that downsize to make them leaner and meaner, more profitable and attractive on Wall Street.
[00:09:31]  And he says it's become open season on CEOs, and, says he, it is wrong.
[00:09:42]  Now I want you to listen to what he says, and we'll have a discussion, I'm sure, about what he says.
[00:09:50]  Quote, it's partly because it's an election year, and beating up on Wall Street and corporate America is a cheap way to get votes or to sell papers.
[00:10:04]  This is old-fashioned, empty-headed job, excuse me, tub-thumping popularism.
[00:10:14]  We've always had a PR problem in America.
[00:10:18]  We just haven't found a way to dress up certain economic realities so that we can take them out in public.
[00:10:28]  Making money is still considered tacky in some circles.
[00:10:33]  It's called greed.
[00:10:36]  End quote.
[00:10:38]  He went on to say that even his own mother, who has long been his number one fan, I mean, here he is, the CEO of Chrysler, is now beginning to wonder about him.
[00:10:53]  And that's because of Pat Buchanan's railing against industry.
[00:11:00]  Actually, very un-Republican-like.
[00:11:04]  Buchanan the other day, in an effort to grab some of the Midwest delegates he did not get anyway, actually embraced the idea of supporting the striker replacement bill, which would say corporations can't replace strikers that go out on work by law.
[00:11:26]  They go out on strike.
[00:11:28]  The law says the company can't replace them.
[00:11:30]  It's ridiculous.
[00:11:35]  It's an abridgment of the freedom of corporations.
[00:11:39]  And they have freedom too, you know, they're supposed to.
[00:11:45]  So, You know, freedom is not a one-way street.
[00:11:52]  Individuals are not the only ones with freedom.
[00:11:56]  Anyway, corporations really are nothing but individuals.
[00:12:02]  They're entities.
[00:12:04]  But, you know, there are people behind these entities, and they've got a right to make a decision.
[00:12:12]  So you might bear in mind the words from Mr. Eaton.
[00:12:15]  I thought they would probably generate a discussion.
[00:12:18]  I'm sure they will.
[00:12:20]  Listen to what he said again.

[00:13:11]  Now, we've made some progress regarding Richard Hoagland's Thursday news conference.
[00:13:18]  And I'll read you a fax I just got.
[00:13:21]  Dear Art, I'm trying to do my part to bring Mr. Hoagland's theories to the knowledge of the general public.
[00:13:28]  I therefore called the Washington, D.C. number that was given out on your show last night, which is the Viewer Services Department, and listened to a taped recording that said Richard Hoagland's press conference was tentative and that I should call back Wednesday, March 20th, to find out if they indeed are going to broadcast it.
[00:13:53]  So, C-SPAN is obviously now beginning to waver and thinking about covering the press conference.
[00:14:03]  Now, I've got a fax here about what Mr. Hoagland talked about, and I thought it'd be worth reading to you.
[00:14:14]  What reason has mankind to feel threatened by knowledge of human beings having existed on Earth prior to our own known history?
[00:14:25]  Were we terrorized by the documentary, The Mysterious Origins of Man, that offered proof of that fact?
[00:14:33]  Does the hair on the nape of our necks rise when we marvel at the technical ability required to build the pyramids of Egypt or South America, which we have not yet figured out?
[00:14:48]  Why should the sudden realization that our prehistorical ancestors had the technology to get to the moon, Mars, and elsewhere to build a glass-domed station on the moon so shock us as to cause us to abandon our dream of space travel?
[00:15:06]  Well, this is the question, and I think it's a very good one.
[00:15:10]  I have come to the point where I'm beginning to believe there have been others before us.
[00:15:18]  Does that shock you?
[00:15:22]  And many of you I know who listen to this program are going to say, no, it does not.
[00:15:28]  But I am of the view that it would utterly disrupt everything about our world that we know and cherish and believe and have faith in If there have been other civilizations of man that have come and gone,
[00:15:51]  then obviously what we read in the Bible is directly challenged, isn't it?
[00:15:59]  It doesn't mean there's not a creator, but the story of creation as we understand it is challenged.
[00:16:10]  No question about it.
[00:16:16]  So I've done a lot of thinking about this.
[00:16:19]  Scientific careers are going to be challenged.
[00:16:24]  The evidence is going to be buried.
[00:16:29]  Speaking of buried, a strong earthquake shook southern Mexico Tuesday, caused buildings to sway in Mexico City.
[00:16:38]  No damage or injuries reported yet, but it was strong.
[00:16:45]  Another, even stronger earthquake of 6.9 magnitude jolted a remote section of northwest China late Tuesday, and I'm getting information that 24 people are dead and that thousands and thousands of people or tens of thousands may be homeless.
[00:17:08]  So that was a big earthquake warning.
[00:17:12]  Maybe God shaking his hand at China.
[00:17:15]  Because we did.
[00:17:17]  The U.S. today gave yet another sharp warning to China against invading Taiwan.
[00:17:24]  And the House approved a resolution stating that Washington should help defend Taiwan in the case of such an attack.
[00:17:31]  This is really interesting.
[00:17:34]  A senior U.S. official also said Taiwan had asked the U.S. in day-long talks in Washington to provide diesel submarines to Taipei for naval defense.
[00:17:46]  Boy, oh boy, oh boy.
[00:17:49]  I'm concerned that we have a private assessment that the situation in China with respect to Taiwan is fluid.
[00:18:03]  I'll use a simple word here or a more obscure word.
[00:18:07]  What I'm really trying to say is, I believe we've got an assessment suggesting that China fully intends to go ahead and invade.
[00:18:18]  That's what I believe.
[00:18:19]  That's why I think the military hardware is there.
[00:18:22]  That's why I think this continues to be a big deal.
[00:18:27]  Even now, even after China said, well, the U.S. has nothing to worry about.
[00:18:32]  We're not going to invade.
[00:18:34]  I think privately, we absolutely believe otherwise.
[00:18:38]  Watch what we do, not what we say.
[00:18:43]  I think we could come to a conflict with China.
[00:18:47]  Well, guess what?
[00:18:48]  In a moment, I'm going to try it.

[00:26:42]  Maybe they're just politically incorrect.

[00:27:53]  And we were all just looking at them, and one of the people on the gym said, whatever happened to the Committee on Un-American Activities.
[00:28:01]  And HEFIS had never, didn't know what he was talking about.
[00:28:04]  And he said that when he was younger, during the Tun years, there was a governor, I think, I mean, a Senator McCarran from the state of Nevada who had a lot to do with starting the Committee for Un-American Activities.
[00:28:16]  And he said that they rooted up and got rid of a lot of people in politics who were actually harming this country.
[00:28:22]  Do you know anything about that?
[00:28:24]  Well, it was kind of a communist-chasing kind of deal, you know.
[00:28:31]  And it just, as you said that, it brought to mind a question.
[00:28:35]  If there was a committee on un-American activities today, who do you think they would be looking at?
[00:28:44]  Well, I'll bet you Louis Farrakhan would have been doing a little testifying there, huh?
[00:28:49]  Lewis probably would have been up having to explain himself.

[00:34:51]  If there had been people here many times before, if they had achieved a high technological state and then been wiped out, what would that mean for us?
[00:35:04]  Well, it would mean we probably need to find another place to live.
[00:35:07]  It might mean that any technological civilization has a certain shelf life.
[00:35:16]  Think about that.
[00:35:18]  That things do not simply go on forever.
[00:35:22]  That, as a natural progression of technology continues, at some point, whether it's in genetics or with computers, or with the environment or whatever it is that a technological society begins doing that it ought not be doing, it ends up getting wiped out almost automatically.
[00:35:49]  That would not be good news for mankind, would it?
[00:35:54]  Or you might conclude that it would give us an opportunity to do some research, find out what wiped the last ones out and try and avoid the same pitfall.

[00:36:06]  It would challenge every paradigm and tenant that we now believe in, archaeology, our own origins, our religions.

[01:26:34]  WJR has indeed been having problems with its satellite feed, apparently due to the weather.
[01:26:40]  They're having a lot of snow.

[01:26:47]  Now listening to you from Ypsilanti, Michigan on WJR 760, what happens is it snows and the snow fills up the satellite dish.
[01:26:57]  And when it does, the parabola or the curvature of the satellite dish is artificially changed by the snow.
[01:27:06]  And it promptly stops working.
[01:27:09]  And so usually what's got to happen is they've got to go out there with a broom and sweep the dish off to keep the parabola so that the focus of the signal being picked up is put back into the LNB or LNC or the focal point of the dish, technically.

[01:29:45]  Coming home, I had to fly from Portland to Oakland, from Oakland to Los Angeles, from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
[01:29:56]  Now, as I was leaving the airport in Las Vegas, I saw a gigantic sign that said brand new, direct Las Vegas to Portland service.
[01:30:08]  I thought a big billboard as I came home, and I thought, hmm.
[01:30:15]  But I suppose to get me there at the appropriate time, they had to pull some strings and send me here and there.
[01:30:22]  And they certainly did send me here and there.
[01:30:27]  Coming into Los Angeles is always a nail-biter for me.
[01:30:31]  And the reason for that is that there is so much traffic.
[01:30:35]  Plus, it takes you about as long to taxi, once you land at LAX, to the point where the airplane is going to board Disgorge and then board its new passengers.
[01:30:48]  It takes as long on the ground as it did to get from Oakland to LA.
[01:30:54]  I mean, it's like we did half the trip in the air and the other half the trip on the ground as we taxied.

[01:33:16]  And this is a book that my parents bought almost 30 years ago, and it was something of a bestseller then.
[01:33:23]  It was called Flying Saucer, Serious Business.

[01:33:26]  And I'm not sure if you're familiar with that book.
[01:33:29]  I have heard about it, yes.
[01:33:30]  Well, it has a picture that was taken by an astronomer who was using 35 millimeter motion picture film, and he saw what appears to be a white cross on the Terminator somewhere near Fra Moral.
[01:33:46]  And I thought that, since this was supposedly a mountain ridge, but no one can understand geophysically how they could be perpendicular lines.
[01:33:56]  Right.
[01:33:57]  This was published in Sky and Telescope, June of 1958.
[01:34:03]  The photo was taken in 56.
[01:34:05]  Right.
[01:34:06]  And that was the official explanation for this.
[01:34:10]  But I thought that was interesting because it's the same region that was involved with Richard Hoagland's issue.

[01:39:03]  See, what we did is we put the trap down, this wonderful trap we got from L.A., and we dribbled some science diet up toward the trap, leading the cat, you know, bite by bite, toward the trap.
[01:39:16]  And the cat ate every single one of the science diet pellets up to the trap and stopped there.
[01:39:25]  And there was a full bowl of science diet inside the trap, and that's the way it went for a couple of days.
[01:39:31]  Finally, in the middle of the night at about three in the morning, snap goes the trap, and there's the orange little furball.
[01:39:37]  Finally.
[01:39:38]  It was a bit older cat?
[01:39:41]  It's either a year or just under a year.
[01:39:43]  Oh, yeah, well, they're very street-wise by then.
[01:39:47]  I found these two when they were just a month old, and their mother had apparently been killed by a raccoon.

[01:39:53]  So, see, it's going to be interesting.
[01:39:55]  As you point out, this one has got to be pretty street-wise, and it's going to be interesting to see how the hierarchy stacks up.

[01:40:44]  I'm telling you, she has this big 17-pounder wrapped around her little claw, and it is little.

[01:51:38]  But before that, it's talking about how the entire world, the entire Earth, was completely different, the atmosphere and the environment.
[01:51:46]  And how the atmosphere had like double or triple oxygen content, and the atmospheric pressure was like two times what it is now, and people were actually able, human beings were actually able to live a thousand years.
[01:52:01]  I mean, there's all kinds of scientific evidence showing how they found some kind of metal deep down in the earth where this time period could have been.
[01:52:10]  Well, you know, that's not necessarily inconsistent with the Bible.
[01:52:14]  Oh, oh, yeah, I know.
[01:52:16]  Yeah, I understand that.
[01:52:17]  But, I mean, the Bible's not meant to be taken literally.

[01:52:20]  Well, look, I am coming to the point.
[01:52:23]  After watching the mysterious origins of mankind, talking with a lot of people, including Hoagland, including a lot of very reputable people, that there have been those who have been before us.

[01:52:39]  It is absolutely as good a theory as any other out there and maybe one with more proof if just the American media would open up and allow it.

[01:56:10]  The others were beginning to stumble, and his numbers continually were growing.
[01:56:15]  He was really the beneficiary, in my opinion, of the fact that people were afraid of Pat Buchanan.
[01:56:25]  So he's going to be the nominee.
[01:56:29]  He's definitely going to be the nominee.
[01:56:31]  But what happens when he's got to debate Clinton?
[01:56:36]  Does he refuse to debate?
[01:56:39]  If he does, Clinton will shred him for it.
[01:56:42]  If he debates Bill Clinton, he may get shredded.
[01:56:47]  He is not a good debater.
[01:56:49]  Bob Dole is not a good debater.
[01:56:54]  He's best when he's being interviewed, for example, on Meet the Press, and you can hear his wit and his humor.

[02:14:14]  Yeah, but again, no matter what, sir, my only point is, and he proved my point, that there are a lot of people who would be very, very, very upset.

[02:14:58]  And what you'll find is that the church tends to catch up with popular science as these things are introduced and proven.

[02:15:49]  And there are a lot of people willing to look beyond now, but they are still the minority, not the majority.
[02:15:57]  And so if something comes along, I'm telling you right now, there's going to be a lot of very, very, very upset people if we suddenly prove they exist.

[02:16:13]  If they prove that there have been prior civilizations and we are not the first and probably will not be the last, then it's going to upset a lot of people.
[02:16:25]  And I believe the increasing evidence is pointing in that direction.
[02:16:29]  So I just guess I sort of agree with the conclusion reached in that New York Times, reported by the New York Times, that society would be at peril if this information gets out.

[02:22:15]  And I don't think, I honestly don't think that Christianity can withstand this because Christianity is based on a single-level, three-dimensional, linear scenario, and also a very limited and constricted view of history that serves its, you know, its ends.

[02:22:37]  Anything that is historical content will be changed.
[02:22:41]  And for that matter, Marxism, Freudianism, Darwinism, those are all based on that biblical scenario construct, and that's going to have to go.

[02:29:15]  The WMO has done very careful measurements with NASA, and they're showing a 45% deficiency.

[02:37:32]  And my simple directions would be, you know, the arc to Arcturus from the handle of the Big Dipper.

[02:37:39]  So you can see how that sort of like evenly spaced stars.
[02:37:44]  If you could just imagine that if the handle would continue and be maybe, I don't know, twice as long as it is, there's another very bright star that's as bright or brighter than the stars of the Big Dipper.

[02:37:58]  And for me, in Eugene, Oregon, it's nearly straight overhead.
[02:38:01]  But it's a little bit to the south where Arcturus is.

[02:38:08]  So I'm looking at the back of my right hand.

[02:38:12]  And if I put my index finger where I'm pointing to Arcturus, that very bright star, then my thumb is sort of sticking out like a backwards L.

[02:38:26]  Well, I know, but if you can find Arcturus, Arcto Arcturus, point to it with your outstretched hand, then your thumb is sort of, your thumb is right over the comet.

[02:38:45]  But there I was out there looking at it and trying to think, oh, if I do get through, how can I describe an easy way to find it?
